The controversial president has been backed to make it consecutive terms in the White House
Current US President Donald Trump is being overwhelmingly backed to retain his position for a second term, as punters pile on him to win in 2020 following this afternoon's announcement.
If elected, Trump would be on course to fulfil the maximum time allotted for a US President to remain in charge of the country.
Even with a multitude of candidates offered by bookies, the 71-year-old is topping the market, with a total of 58% of all bets on him to be re-elected in the last hour.
Odds have been cut on Trump reaffirming his position from 5/2 into 15/8, implying a 28% chance of winning to a 34% chance of re-election.
We’ve seen a tremendous amount of traffic in the last hour following Trump’s decision to run again in the next election.
Since the announcement to stand as the Republican candidate, punters have been getting their bets on well ahead of the election in two years’ time.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: “While many of the world's population await news of a Trump impeachment, punters reckon he is here to stay.
“This could be a case of having an emotional hedge, profiting if the President does manage to be elected for another term.”
