The draft Brexit agreement is expected to be met with a frosty reception as May pitches to cabinet.
Theresa May will meet with senior cabinet ministers this afternoon to pitch a draft Brexit agreement that she argues is the best possible outcome of talks with EU officials.
With the theme of the deal likely to be compromise above all, those ministers that sit at the extremes of the Brexit debate are expected to be dissatisfied with the agreement.
Brexiteers including Liz Truss, Esther McVey and Penny Mordaunt have been given an early look at the draft this morning, but are unlikely to see a deal that fits with their wishes for a hard-line approach. As a result, reports suggest the Prime Minister will be faced with a spate of resignations from her cabinet.
The latter, Secretary of State for International Development Penny Mordaunt, is now the favourite to be the next Cabinet Minister to leave ahead of the crunch meeting this afternoon. She leads the market at a price of 3/1 ahead of fellow Brexiteer Esther McVey.
Penny Mordaunt has been in the news this week already after controversially calling for government to withdraw funding from UNESCO, accused of cabinet ‘freelancing’, she was silenced by senior colleagues at No.10 who quickly distanced themselves from her stance.
With a fractious relationship already brewing between Mordaunt and her peers, the draft deal is expected to cause tensions to boil over.
Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson said: "Penny Mordaunt is predicted not only by bookmakers, but also by punters to be next in the firing line. A whopping 56% of all bets on who will be next to go have been placed on the International Development Secretary being relieved of her duties.”
