Odds slashed on Brexit being delayed until 2022

Punters have been piling on at least another three years of Brexit negotiations.

Bookmakers have slashed odds on Brexit being delayed until 2022, following the postponement of Theresa May’s plans.

The ‘not before 2022’ outcome on the Brexit Date betting market has been cut from 9/2 to 2/1 in the space of a tumultuous two months.

Despite insisting that she would put her Brexit deal to MPs on Tuesday this week, Theresa May called off the vote based on the overwhelming likelihood it would be rejected by a significant margin.

With the Prime Minister now going back to EU leaders with her bargaining power diminished even further, many punters are questioning whether we will see the UK leave the EU by 2022.

Theresa May postponed the crucial commons vote on her proposed divorce deal in the hope of improving it through further discussions with EU officials this week.

The Brexit saga rolls on as the UK are still legally required to leave the EU by 29th March next year. However, with questions over the Northern Irish ‘backstop’ still unanswered and the UK’s position in negotiations weakening by the day, further delays to progress seem inevitable.

As calls for taking the vote back to the British public continue to grow, it is unsurprising that plenty believe the controversial departure will not happen before 2022.

Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: “We’ve seen a plethora of punting action on the government failing to secure a Brexit deal in time for the next World Cup, believe it or not.

“Out of all the possible time frames, ‘not before 2022’ is comfortably the most popular among punters, attracting 48% of all bets on when Brexit will finally happen.”
