Punters are piling on the Tory pair as Corbyn odds drift to 9/1.
Bookmakers have cut odds on Conservative pair Michael Gove or David Lidington replacing Theresa May as Prime Minister, with one making them joint favourites for the position at 11/4.
Environment Secretary Gove is now favourite for the job with most bookies, having been cut from 6/1 to as short as 11/4 over the weekend. Meanwhile, May’s deputy Lidington has rocketed up to joint favouritism in places at 11/4, priced way out at 14/1 just yesterday.
Lidington is the punters’ pick to replace her, with 44% of bets on the next PM market in the last 24 hours going his way. Gove is unsurprisingly the second most backed with 23.8%.
As a million people march in London calling for a second EU referendum, millions more sign an online petition to revoke Article 50, and the rest of the country demand a final decision on Brexit; Theresa May’s already floundering leadership is at breaking point.
Reports suggest that several cabinet ministers are urging May to quit in light of more heavy defeats and her desperate plea for a further delay to Brexit.
Following the latest news, Theresa May’s exit date being March 2019 has also been slashed from 9/1 a few days ago to 13/8.
With it looking likely May will be replaced from within her party before any election, Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn has drifted out from 5/1 favourite to a best price of 9/1 to be next PM.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: “Theresa May has refused to budge throughout months of uproar over her failure to deliver Brexit, including a confidence vote from her party.
“However, this appears to be the most significant challenge on May’s leadership yet and bookies have reacted accordingly. With the public backlash at fever pitch these grumblings from within cabinet could be what finally forces her to step aside.”
