Keir Starmer continues to drift in the market...
Rebecca Long-Bailey is the new odds-on favourite to replace Jeremy Corbyn as Labour leader, following a flurry of bets over the last 24 hours.
The MP for Salford and Eccles has had her odds cut from 4/1 into as short as 5/6, with 11 different bookmakers now making her odds on.
That’s due to a heavy influx of bets over the last 24 hours, with 31% of all bets on the next Labour leader backing Long-Bailey.
What’s really sent her price crashing, however, is that 60% of all stakes in the market have backed the former Shadow Secretary for Business, Energy and Industrial Strength.
Elsewhere, former favourite Keir Starmer continues to drift, moving from 2/1 all the way out to 17/2 third favourite.
That means MP Lisa Nandy has leapfrogged Starmer and is now the 3/1 second favourite in the market.
Jess Philips is the fourth favourite at 14/1, followed by Yvette Cooper (33/1), Clive Lewis (40/1) and Angela Rayner (50/1).
Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: “Jeremy Corbyn’s horror show in the general election has resulted in a bidding war at the bookies as to who will replace him.
“Keir Starmer was the early front runner but has since been well out of favour with punters, only attracting 3% of bets in the last 24 hours.
“It’s not Rebecca Long-Bailey leading the charge, and is becoming an increasingly strong favourite in the market – definitely, one to keep an eye on as the race hots up.”
