Kanye West as short as 40/1 in 2020 US Presidential Election market

The rapper is the most backed behind Trump since Saturday.

Kanye West has been the second most backed candidate in the 2020 US Presidential Election market since Saturday.

The 43-year-old tweeted on Saturday that he would be running for President this year. This prompted plenty of raised eyebrows, but also resulted in bookmakers cutting odds on the musician and fashion designer to as short as 40/1.

While it's been widely reported West has missed key deadlines for filing paperwork, and plenty are sceptical over his claim, that hasn't stopped punters. Yeezy has been the most backed candidate in the market behind Trump since his Independence Day tweet, with 27% of bets in that time going his way.

Joe Biden is the current favourite in the market, at a best price of 8/11. The man currently residing in the White House, Donald Trump, has drifted out to a best price of 6/4.

Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: “This is of course highly likely to be a stunt. However, Kanye West has certainly grabbed the attention of the public with his supposed campaign launch on Twitter.

“In a market which has been dominated by various controversies surrounding the top two, it’s interesting to see a big market move on an unlikely challenger at this stage.”
