Rishi Sunak is the favourite in the Next Prime Minister Odds Market after Liz Truss resigned on Thursday afternoon.
Prime Minister (PM) Liz Truss has resigned from office after failing to recover from the disastrous reaction to the 'mini-budget' three weeks ago.
On Monday, Chancellor Jeremy Hunt ditched almost all of Truss' tax cuts to try and stabilise the economic situation, but the damage had already been done for the PM.
Who are the favourites to replace Truss as Prime Minister?
Rishi Sunak, who Truss beat in the most recent Conservative leadership battle, was 7/2 with most bookmakers a week ago but as short as 6/4 by last Friday. 13/8 is available for the 42-year-old to replace Truss at the time of writing.
Penny Mordaunt, who came third in the recent Conservative leadership election, is a best price 9/2 to become the next PM. Ben Wallace, Secretary of State for Defence, is now 14/1.

Hunt, who delivered a damning blow to Truss' regime on Monday, was 12/1 in the 'next Prime Minister odds after Liz Truss' upon news of her resignation having been as short as 7/2 in the aftermath of his emergency statement. He was as long as 40/1 last Thursday.
However, the Chancellor has subsequently drifted to 40/1 after confirming he will not stand to be the next Conservative leader and take over as PM.
Meanwhile, Boris Johnson - who only resigned as PM as recently as July - is already on the list of candidates to return but remains a 14/1 long shot to reprise the role (shortest 4/1).
