Now that US President Joe Biden has announced that he will seek re-election for the presidency in 2024, we look at his main rivals for the Oval Office.
Joe Biden
After serving as vice-president under Barack Obama, Joe Biden beat Donald Trump in the 2020 presidential election to become the 46th president of the United States, and he is 11/8 favourite to remain as the POTUS.
If Biden wins a second term he would break the record for the oldest president ever elected, a record set by himself only four years ago.
However, his age, health and capability have come into question in recent months, prompting questions around how wise it would be for him to win another term.
Although age has clearly impacted him, the Democratic party view him as the only viable candidate who can beat Trump - who is likely to launch another presidential bid.

Donald Trump
After serving as the 45th president of the United States, Trump is set to launch a fresh bid in 2024. Even though he is coming off the back of a two impeachments and a felony trial in New York, the former POTUS’ popularity in red states is as strong as ever and he is favourite at 4/9 to nominated as the Republican candidate.

With Biden the likely candidate for the Democrats, it is worth noting that the Republican candidacy is more up for grabs. Alongside the favourite Trump, the name on everyone’s lips is Ron DeSantis.

DeSantis rose to prominence with his handling of the COVID pandemic, a reason Trump has been so heavily criticised. Ever since then he has been touted for the presidency and Trump has taken note. The 76-year-old has publicly ridiculed DeSantis on several occasions and has made it clear that he sees him as his main competitor for the Republican candidacy.
So what are DeSantis’ chances of winning the election? First of all he has to beat Trump and be nominated as the Republican Candidate, for which he is a best price of 11/4 to do so. If he manages to rally enough support on the hill and do so, he is as short as 4/1 to win the election.
Kamala Harris
The Vice President was a central part of the ticket that won in 2020 and although they have said that she will, it is unclear if she will run alongside Biden again in 2024.
Many in the Democrat party see Harris as a liability going in to 2024. Her popularity has dwindled since being appointed as Vice President, her popularity has dropped by 12 points in the polls and she has been publicly outed as a bully.

With this in mind, Biden may choose another candidate to run alongside, opening the door for Harris’ bid. Should Biden wish to go another way and she opts to launch her own bid she can be found as short as 22/1.
