Clacton by-election Odds: Reform Heavy Favourites to Win Seat

Reform are the heavy odds-on favourites to win the Clacton by-election, with Count Binface also proving a popular bet.

Reform are the overwhelming favourites to win the Clacton by-election, with the latest odds showing Nigel Farage’s party as short as 1/8 to retain the seat.

The by-election was triggered after Farage said he would quit as Clacton MP and stand again, with Reuters reporting that the Reform UK leader framed the contest as a “people versus the establishment” vote while facing scrutiny over his finances.

That has created an unusual political betting market. Reform have taken 57% of bets on Oddschecker today, but Count Binface is the second most-backed option with 25%, ahead of every traditional party in the betting.

Who is Favourite to Win the Clacton By-Election?

Reform are the clear favourites to win the Clacton by-election at 1/8, which gives them an implied probability of almost 89%.

Farage won Clacton for Reform at the 2024 General Election, gaining the seat from the Conservatives with a majority of 8,405 on a 58.7% turnout.

The short price reflects both Reform’s strength in the seat and the current shape of the race. ITV reported that Labour and the Conservatives said they would not stand candidates, while the Green Party and Restore Britain also indicated they would not contest the by-election triggered by Farage.

Why is Count Binface Second Favourite?

Count Binface is now 5/1 second favourite and has attracted 25% of bets on Oddschecker today, making him the most notable challenger in the market.

That betting interest appears to be driven less by conventional electoral strength and more by the unusual shape of the contest. With several major parties choosing not to contest the seat, Count Binface has become the obvious protest-vote name in the betting.

ITV reported that Count Binface said he would stand in Clacton and called on Labour, the Conservatives, Lib Dems and Greens to stand down, positioning himself as a “unity candidate”.

Why is There a Clacton By-Election?

The Clacton by-election has been triggered by Farage’s decision to resign as MP and seek re-election.

Reuters reported that Farage said he would quit as a lawmaker to trigger a by-election in his seat, while also saying he wanted his constituents to decide whether they still wanted him as their MP.

ITV reported that Farage has faced scrutiny over financial support given to him, including a £5m gift from Reform donor Christopher Harborne, while Farage has denied wrongdoing and said he had “not broken the law in any way at all”.

Next Reform Leader Betting Market

The Clacton by-election has also sharpened focus on the Next Reform Leader betting market, even though Farage remains Reform UK leader.

Robert Jenrick is the current favourite at 10/3, ahead of Zia Yusuf at 4/1 and Richard Tice at 5/1. The market is notable because Reform’s recent senior team contains several high-profile figures who could be viewed as future leadership options. Reuters reported in February that Reform named former Conservative Robert Jenrick as finance policy chief as Farage attempted to broaden the party beyond a “one-man band” image.
