Christmas Day is full of traditions: presents, turkey, family, drinking, The Queen’s speech, having a bet. Yes, that’s right - betting on Christmas Day is becoming ever more popular and the numbers prove it. We’ve taken a look at our website traffic over the last few years and seen some interesting patterns have occurred on the big day. But the question is: which City is the most committed to the cause?
Dublin! The Irish, once again, prove themselves as truly devoted punters. Over the last three years, residents of Dublin have visited Oddschecker over 100,000 times - twice as much as any other city has on Christmas day! This is pretty staggering when you consider the population is approximately 8x less than London, who ranked 2nd in our Christmas Gambler table. With Liverpool, Manchester and Glasgow making up the rest of the top 5.
At the other end of the spectrum we have the likes of Aberdeen and Bolton, who only register between 1000 - 1500 page views each year on the 25th December. This might be due to a lack of interest in betting, stricter girlfriends/wives or maybe it’s the because they have such a fun-filled Christmas? Who knows…
What we do know is that this year’s sporting calendar over the Christmas Period is pretty close to betting heaven, so we will probably be having a browse on Oddschecker come 3pm on Sunday. But will Dublin keep their Christmas Gambler crown for the fourth year on the bounce?
