Hardy, Tom Hardy: Huge wager on the next James Bond

One British punter appears to have finally found the answer to the question of who will replace Daniel Craig as James Bond.

The British public have been fixated by the first day of Royal Ascot, with thousands of bets being placed on one of the biggest days of flat racing in the calendar year, via Oddschecker. However, one bet has really stood out, and it’s nothing to do with the horses…

One punter has placed a three figure bet on the next James Bond market, with his wager being placed on the favourite, Tom Hardy. The bet is spread across numerous bookmakers, as the traders tend to limited their liability on novelty markets.

The bets placed suggest the person in question has some pretty solid connections in Hollywood. That said, rumours come and go in the celebrity world, for example ludicrous stories circulated just a few years ago about Beyonce and former-President Barack Obama having an affair.

The star of Mad Max: Fury Road odds were slashed a couple of months back, following him heroically chasing a thief through the streets of Richmond, a script straight out of the James Bond textbook. This time last year, Hardy was a 14/1 shot to be named the next 007, however those odds have been shaken (not stirred), and he’s now as short as 3/1, implying a 25% chance.

Along with Hardy, the following actors are all under 10/1 to land the role; Aidan Turner, Idris Elba, Jack Huston, Tom Hiddleston, James Norton and Michael Fassbendar.

The massive punt today is the biggest witnessed in the market since late May when one bullish gambler had a three-figure bet on Hardy. This year, the 39 year-old has been the most popular bet accounting for 12% of bets placed on Daniel Craig’s replacement. However, Michael Fassbender holds the largest share of money; a massive 32% of money stakes has been on the Assassin Creed star.

We hear rumours all the time regarding this market, the uncertainty is shown by the number of actors priced under 10/1. However, it’s rare we see such a punt completely out of the blue, nothing in the media suggests a reason to back him today, therefore this could be someone in the know…
