Since bowing out with silver in the 5000m at the weekend, Farah has accounted for 61% of bets in the SPOTY market
The curtain came down on Mo Farah’s illustrious career on Saturday night as he claimed a silver medal in the 5000m. Since crossing the line the four-time Olympic champion and six-time World Champion has been a huge favourite amongst bettors to win the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year award. 61% of all bets on the market since his retirement have been placed on Farah.
His odds to win the award are as short as 4/1 in places, with best price 14/1 still available. Interestingly, Farah was shorter before his final race, with many expecting him to bow out with another win. Seemingly bettors don’t think coming second will ruin his legacy or chances of claiming the accolade.
Anthony Joshua remains the favourite to win Sports Personality of the Year at best price 1/2, with Jermain Defoe the only other candidate ahead of Farah at 12/1.
