In typical English fashion the public couldn’t wait to place their pessimistic Ashes bets following the release of England’s touring squad. The media and public alike were left scratching their heads with this morning’s announcement, with some suggesting it’s the weakest Ashes side in the last decade.
Australia themselves aren’t in the best of form, but that’s not enough to stop a surge of bets on the Aussies winning the series 5-0. Since the squad announcement, just over 90% of bets on the series correct score market have been on a home whitewash. Another Aussie onslaught can still be backed at 14/1, but one bookie on Oddschecker has this priced at as short as 8/1.
The odds of the home nation winning the series have been cut with five different sportsbooks this morning. The Aussies are now priced at 3/5, but one bookie has them as short as 1/2, which implies they have a 66.7% chance of reclaiming the Ashes on home territory.
