Biggest Shocks of the Weekend

Three surprise results that could have won you big money from the bookies

John Henderson beating Michael van Gerwen

Although it’s rare you get a long-odds victory in a two horse race, that’s what exactly happened on Sunday night when Michael van Gerwen crashed out of the World Grand Prix in the very first round. ‘Big’ John Henderson was 11/1 before a dart was thrown and went up to 20/1 at one point in the match, before hitting tops with one dart in the deciding leg for a massive victory.

Jonny Delta wins the Robert Purvis handicap

Odds-on favourite Enable won the big one at Chantilly yesterday, but over at Musselburgh Jonny Delta won at a much more handsome price in the Robert Purvis Handicap. The colt went off at 20/1 and did fantastically well to create a gap for himself in the hands of jockey James Sullivan. He got up just in time to take the race at the line.

Hull beating Birmingham 6-1

New Blues boss Steve Cotterill was in the stands and after what he must realise that there’s a big job on his hands after what he saw. Leonard Slutsky’s side ran rampant at the KCom Stadium, smashing in three goals in either half before Birmingham netted a last-minute consolation. Hull were favourites but virtually nobody expected a 6-1 scoreline: At one point in the morning, you could have got 425/1. Anybody who backed that must have woken up with a sore head in the morning!
