The Warriors are odds on favourites for the championship, but plenty of teams have seen a chunk of bets
The Golden State Warriors are the odds on favourites to win another NBA Championship this season, but many teams with a lower chance of winning have seen more bets placed on them.
This has been shown by data, collected by Oddschecker, that took the ten most-backed NBA teams for this season, and compared their percentages of bets with their chances of winning in a graphic table.

The Warriors’ comparatively lower percentage of bets shows that punters have shied away from their short odds. Meanwhile, second-favoured Cavaliers have accumulated a lot more bets relatively.
The biggest surprise from the data were the Oklahoma City Thunder, who are currently 6th favourite with Vegas but have the third most bets of any team, with 14.1% of market bets.
Here is how the punter’s table looks, showing percentages of bets for the top ten most-backed teams:
1. Golden State Warriors - 28.94%
2. Cleveland Cavaliers - 20.11%
3. Oklahoma City Thunder - 14.10%
4. Houston Rockets - 10.45%
5. Boston Celtics - 6.11%
6. Minnesota Timberwolves - 5.81%
7. Philadelphia 76ers - 5.62%
8. San Antonio Spurs - 2.76%
9. Denver Nuggets - 1.57%
10. Toronto Raports - 1.57% Other - 2.96%
The data has been collected from the end of the 2016/17 season until 13th October.
