Fairytale of New York was voted one of greatest ever Christmas’ songs of all-time, but it’s predicted to feature behind the celebrity double act in this year’s charts.
Despite the Love Island stars only reaching 15th in the Top 40 charts with their debut song earlier this month, the bookies are predicting the duo have more chance of being top of the charts at Christmas than The Pogues.
Despite being hugely popular, The Pogues have never taken the top spot; their smash hit Fairytale of New York has finished in the top 10 on numerous occasions, including a 15th place finish in 2017. The bookies have priced up the punk band at 100/1 to be top at Christmas, double the odds of Chris and Kem (currently 50/1).
Other artists which are less likely than Chris and Kem to land the top spot include Wizzard, Slade and Sir Cliff Richard.
Despite being ninth favourite in the market for Christmas number one, the pair have got a tough battle on their hands. George Michael / Wham is favourite to hit the top spot with Last Christmas, according to one bookie he has 64% of being Number One.
Oddschecker spokesman, George Elek “It would be a massive shock if Chris and Kem take this year’s Christmas number one, and would also be a costly result for punters. Oddschecker users haven’t bought into the double act, instead there’s huge backing for George Michael. Just under 57% of bets have been on Last Christmas landing the top spot.”
