Aberdeen the bookies favourite to see snowfall come December 25 – but punters are backing the Capital!
Britain is under siege currently by an ‘arctic freeze’ which means night time temperatures will be dropping below freezing and snow starting to fall across parts of the north. It’s made punters think about that age old question – Will there be a ‘White Christmas’ anywhere in the UK?
It’s an event that's only happened twice in the last 13 years, but it hasn’t stopped bets being placed on various locations throughout the UK. Those with Geographical knowledge will not be surprised to learn that the bookies favourites are situated in Scotland.
Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Dundee are the three favourites, priced at 7/4, 2/1 and 3/1 respectively. The data is measured using machines based at the city’s airports to determine if there is or isn’t snowfall.
Slightly less likely according to the bookies is London. Priced at 6/1, it hasn’t stopped the capital from being the second best-backed city in the last fortnight.
However the most popular cities have been Leeds & Bradford. 26% of bets in the last fortnight have been for West Yorkshire, which is priced also at 6/1.
Oddschecker Spokeman George Elek: “The romanticists have started to dream of a ‘White Christmas’ and firms have started drawing up prices. Punters are always keen to get on this time of the year and there’s lots of money for London, but Scotland is where the bookies believe the best chance is. With just two Christmases in the last 13 years having snowfall, there’s every chance that it could just be a non-event!
