The Suffolk singer has seen his odds cut as 40% of bets in the last two days have gone on ‘Perfect’
After countless chart hits, millions of records sold and tours in dozens of countries, there isn’t much that Ed Sheeran hasn’t done. But a Xmas Number One is something that has yet to be ticked off the 26-year old’s list. But that could change this year, with the Suffolk singer currently second-favourite with his song ‘Perfect’ which is being backed heavily by Oddschecker users.
In the last 48 hours, almost 40% of bets have gone on Sheeran’s song, taken from his third album ‘Divide’. That’s more than any other song in that time and has seen Sheeran’s odds for top billing on Top Of The Pops cut from 9/2 a few weeks ago to as short as 9/4 in places. You can still get 7/2 however.
The current favourite remains Wham/George Michael with Last Christmas, which is enjoying a huge renaissance in honour of Michael’s passing on Christmas Day last year. You can still get 11/4 on Michael’s eighth number one as a performer. These two songs are well ahead than the X Factor 2017 Winner in the betting, which is an 8/1 third-favourite.
Oddschecker Spokesman George Elek: “The race for the Xmas Number One single has taken another twist and the most popular male singer of the year has now entered the frame. It’s been a record breaking 12 months for the Framlingham man and if ‘Perfect’ could top the charts on December 25th, it would be the icing on the cake. But Sheeran has some tough competition in the form of the hot favourite ‘Last Christmas’."
