Ed Sheeran and Beyoncé backed for Christmas number one

Old favourites Mariah Carey & George Michael also proving popular with punters

Ed Sheeran and Beyoncé are the odds-on favourites to have this year’s Christmas number one with their song Perfect Duet.

The pop superstars released their single on the 30th November and currently occupy third spot in the UK Top 40 behind Rita Ora and long-time no1 Camila Cabello.

Since its release on Thursday, it has attracted 31.42% of all bets on the Christmas number one market and is the current odds-on favourite with bookmakers at a best price of 8/11.

Second on the list with Oddschecker users is Mariah Carey and her Christmas classic All I Want For Christmas Is You with 11.02%. The American diva has been steadily moving up the charts over the last few weeks and currently occupies no.22 in this week’s live chart. Now as short as 8/1 and best price 14/1, her odds have fluctuated throughout the last month having originally been as big as 33/1 at the start of November.

Completing the top three is the legend George Michael/Wham and their festive favourite Last Christmas. This Christmas will mark the 12 month anniversary of the death of one of the UK’s most iconic music stars and it appears punters believe a Christmas number one would be a fitting tribute. 10.67% of all bets since last Thursday have been on the Wham hit which is now best price 5/1 to be top of the charts for Christmas. However, those odds were much shorter less than a month ago at just 5/4.

Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: “It seems surprising that a song released at the end of November, that isn't even top of the charts, is odds-on to grab the Christmas number 1 spot. Punters seem convinced though, although the steady money for Mariah Carey's classic looks like it could be the way to go.”
