Surge in bets on Royal Baby Name market

Is the secret out of the bag? There has been a large spike of wagers on a boy’s name

Oddschecker has seen a large number of bets in the last 48 hours in the Royal Baby Name betting. Currently a 16/1 shot, the name Albert has seen 78.83% of all bets in the last 48 hours including a number of three-figure punts, a huge spike on in what had been a quiet market of late.

The recent support for Albert means that since the official announcement back on September 4th, the boy’s name is now the most popular pick with Oddschecker users with 16.43% of bets. Next on the list is current bookies’ favourite Alice with 12.56% and Alexandra in third on 6.28%.

Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: "Interest in Royal matters has understandably increased since Price Harry's engagement to Meghan Markle, but it is his older brother's name choosing that has got punters opening their wallets. Whether the Duke of Cornwall has let slip what name has taken their fancy or if it is just a hunch, Albert is the name attracting interest"
