Philadelphia 76ers’ breath-taking end to the season has led to a plethora of punters backing them to go all the way and win the NBA Championship.
They’ve had their odds slashed from 66/1 exactly one month ago, into just 14/1 with some bookmakers as of today (April 19).
The Joel Embiid led team have also been the firm punters’ pick, attracting a quarter of all bets over the last week on who will end up eventual NBA champs.
The 76ers are tied 1-1 with Miami Heat in the first round of their play-off campaign, and square off against Dwayne Wade and co tonight in the third match of the series.
Golden State Warriors remain firm favourites to scoop the biggest prize in basketball at 6/5 best price, followed by the Houston Rockets at 23/10.
Next come the steaming Toronto Raptors and DeMar DeRozan at 8/1, and the Cleveland Cavaliers at 10/1.
Elsewhere in 76ers news, Ben Simmons is nailed on for Rookie of the Year at 1/50 with several bookmakers, after a sensational season in the league.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek said: “One team which has set the league alight towards the back end of the season is the Philadelphia 76’ers.
“They’ve proved the punters’ pick for who they think will end up crowned champs, with Ben Simmons and Markelle Fultz hitting their stride at just the right time.
“Having won 16-straight, punters are lumping on them because of their form – not a bad tactic when it comes to play-off basketball.”
