We look at several big markets to see how Oddschecker users think the season will fare.
It’s almost here – The NFL will return to our screen with all the action and razzmatazz as ever. 32 teams will embark on a quest to lift the Vince Lombardi Trophy in Atlanta on February 3rd next year. But there’s 267 games between now and whichever MVP lifts the trophy in Super Bowl LIII and so much could happen!
We’ve looked at four key markets to find out how Oddschecker users have been placing their money and the results may surprise you. Let’s get stuck in…
Super Bowl Winner
You won’t find the Eagles, Vikings or even the Patriots here! The team that have been backed more than any other are the LA Rams (11/1), who have received a quarter of all bets since the start of the off-season. Their roster is stacked and with Sean McVay’s side currently third in the market, we could see the youngest Head Coach in the league get the ultimate accolade. Next up is the aforementioned New England Patriots (13/2 favs), who will be relying on 41-year-old Tom Brady to lead them to glory. Coming in third is somewhat surprisingly the New Orleans Saints (16/1). Traditionally great in the passing stats, they have finally found a run game to match and could be a real threat all season.
NFC Winner
Once again we find the Rams (13/2) in the best-backed territory, and again it’s by a wide margin – 31% of bets have gone on LA, 12% more than the next best-backed team, the New Orleans Saints (17/2). The Eagles (11/2) may be the favourites but they have only received 5% of bets, with punters maybe seeking value elsewhere.
AFC Winner
It’s another interesting pick here, with the LA Chargers (11/1) the most backed selection with a whopping 26% of bets. Next up is the Houston Texans (14/1) with 19%, followed by the Jacksonville Jaguars (10/1) with 11%. Market favourites Patriots (12/5) are only fourth, with the short price maybe putting off some.
Regular Season MVP
Finally we get to the market where QB’s dominate, and it’s the market co-leader Aaron Rodgers (6/1 JF) that leads here with 17% of the bets. Drew Brees (14/1) is second, with left-field choice Philip Rivers (40/1) coming in third. Tom Brady (6/1JF), so often the saviour for the Pats and three-time recipient of this award, is seventh, with the likes of Carson Wentz (16/1) and Ezekiel Elliott (50/1) ahead of him.
