Money is continuing to pour in on the emerging hot ticket in US politics
British bookmakers have received a flurry of bets on the Democrats winning the US Senate midterm election in Texas, with money continuing to be placed on Beto O’Rourke.
The seat has not been Democrat in 30 years, but Oddschecker can exclusively reveal that O’Rourke now has a 25% implied chance of winning the Texas midterm election.
That equates to the bookies' price of 3/1, with those who set the odds predicting Ted Cruz has a 75% implied probability chance of winning the seat.
Despite bookmakers fancying Cruz, punters unanimously disagree. In total, 69% of all bets over the previous seven days have been placed on the Democrats.
In the race for the presidency, O’Rourke has had his odds cut massively over the past few weeks, from 100/1 into 18/1 at the time of writing (November 5th).
He’s been heavily backed to win the election, with a whopping 32% of all bets in the last week, more so than any other candidate.
Elsewhere, Donald Trump is favourite to be re-elected in 2020 at 6/4 best price, currently the market leader by a considerable margin.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek said: “Beto O'Rourke's campaign has been immensely popular on social media across the world, and whilst that may not win you elections, it has punters flocking to back him against the controversial Ted Cruz.
“The bookmakers still believe that the Texas Senate will remain red, but we have seen some large profile upsets in US politics in the not so distant past.”
