The viral sensation is making a late charge for top spot with his charity hit.
UK blogger Mark Hoyle, also known as LadBaby, is set to scoop the coveted Christmas number one according to bookies.
After an endearing appearance alongside his family on BBC Breakfast, LadBaby is now the clear favourite to scoop the festive top spot. He’s priced at 1/16 with one bookie, implying a 94% probability he gets number one. A best price of 1/8 is still available.
His single “We Built This City On Sausage Rolls”, a parody of Starship’s 1985 song, has taken on an unexpected popularity after the video became a viral hit on social media. Promising that profits would be donated to food banks across the UK, the public have turned a joke into a legitimate challenger for the top spot.
Ariana Grande had previously topped the chart with “Thank U, Next”, which although returning similar download figures, was a long way ahead of rivals in the streaming stats. She’s now slipped to third in the running.
Rising star Ava Max had made a late surge with “Sweet But Psycho”. The 24-year-old currently sits in the number one spot since the midweek chart update, but LadBaby could be set to pip her to the post.
Oddschecker spokesperson George Elek: “The race for Christmas number one is all but over, with the 1/16 on LadBaby suggesting that the announcement is now all but a formality.”
