Nathan Hunt Column January 14
Nathan Hunt is one of the leading greyhound trainers in the country. In his latest column, which is published weekly on the Oddschecker website and social media channels, Nathan discusses his four runners at Romford on Friday & also outlines his targets for 2021.
We have four runners at Romford on Friday who all have a chance of winning
6:09: Romford: Aero Rackitup (Trap Three) and Grays Cup Winner (Trap Four)
Firstly, I hope everyone enjoyed the Festive period. We still had a busy time of things throughout and we’re really excited about getting started this year.
This duo have been absolutely fantastic servants and they are both in really good form. Aero Rackitup was a winner for this column just before Christmas when landing an Open Race at Romford with a brilliant performance.
She started the new year with success in an A1 at Romford on January 2. She would have run last week at Romford, but the meeting was called off due to a frozen track. She’s in great form at home and is running really well. The draw in trap three should be fine and I’m hopeful of a good performance.
Grays Cup Winner was behind Aero Rackitup at Romford before Christmas, but produced a superb performance to score by four lengths on his latest start. He is suited by the draw in trap four and he is in great form.
It’s really hard to split the pair of them and I would be hopeful of them both running really well in the opener.
6:43: Romford: Droopys Flight (Trap Two)
Droopys Flight is a puppy we’re really excited about. We bought him after he finished third at Newcastle in December and ran was unlucky on his first start for us when he was slow away before staying on strongly.
I think he’s more than good enough to win a race of this nature and hopefully given his good early he can lead the other dogs around.
He’s a dog I like and hopefully he can be seen to best effect on Friday night.
6:58: Romford: Jonno You Go
Nothing went right for him at Nottingham last time as he stumbled and fell early. He has been fine since that and he produced a really nice trial at Romford last week which I was delighted with.
I think he would prefer to be drawn on the inside as he has such good early pace so the draw is a slight concern, but we’re hopeful of a good performance from him too.
In terms of chances, I really think all four dogs could go really well. Grays Cup Winner and Aero Rackitup are both in good form so hopefully they have leading claims in the opening race of the evening.
My hopes for 2021
I obviously took over the license at the start of 2020 from Phil Simmonds and I was delighted with how things went last year. We had a good start and then we obviously had to stop because of the lockdown.
It was all about getting settled in and getting a nice team of dogs together for 2021 and hopefully we can now have a good year with no other delays.
We’ve got a few lovely dogs to look forward to including the likes of Droopys Flight who runs on Friday. We’ve started the year well and it would be great to have some more Open Racers in the kennel.
We’ve got lots of young pups to look forward to in the middle half of the year and hopefully we can unearth a potential superstar.
