The bookmakers have reacted to the latest comments from Prime Minister Rishi Sunak on the timing of the next general election.
The Prime Minister Rishi Sunak is now only 52% likely to leave his position this year according to the best price of 10/11 on Coral in their ‘Sunak Exit Date’ market.
That comes after the comments he made yesterday, suggesting he is working on the assumption of a general election "in the second half of this year".
There had been speculation in recent weeks he might call a spring 2024 election. Just last week, Labour claimed a spring vote was the "worst kept secret in Parliament", while Lib Dem leader Ed Davey called for the general election to be held in May.
Several bookmakers including BetMGM UK went as long as 9/4 for Sunak's exit date to be 2025 or later on New Year's Eve (implied 30% chance).
However, Ladbrokes and Coral are now as short as 5/6 for Sunak to leave in 2025 or later (55% chance). The best price is Betfred's 5/4 (44% chance).

Keir Starmer has been odds on with all bookmakers in the Prime Minister after the next general election odds market since August 2022. In fact, the Labour leader has only fluctuated between 1/3 and 1/10 (90% chance) since the middle of last year.
He remains a best price 1/4 on Paddy Power (80% chance), but is as short as 1/10 with three bookmakers. Rishi Sunak is a general 5/1 chance with all bookmakers on oddschecker.
