World Snooker Championship 2024 favourite revealed after first round of matches

Judd Trump is the big market mover after the first round of matches.

The outright winner odds for the World Snooker Championship 2024 have been constantly chasing after three of the top six pre-tournament favourites fell at the first hurdle.

Four-time champion Mark Selby (2014, 2016, 2017 & 2021) was as short as 7/1 going into the tournament before being beaten 10-6 by debutant Joe O'Connor at the Crucible.

Meanwhile, three-time champion Mark Williams (2000, 2003 & 2018), a shortest 11/1 pre-tournament, was beaten 10-9 by 2023 semi-finalist Si Jiahui.

Last year's winner Luca Brecel (14/1 to win the tournament) lost the final four frames to bow out against David Gilbert, one of the outright betting fancies for George Weyham.

The raft of surprise early exits has seen Judd Trump come in from a best price of 9/2 pre-tournament to a longest 10/3 on Paddy Power and BetMGM. The 34-year-old, who won the tournament in 2019, is a shortest 11/4 with bookmakers on the oddschecker grid.

Mark Allen is the other big mover at the very head of the market. Having been available to back at 11/1 before a ball was struck, the best price for the 38-year-old going – yet to win the World Snooker Championship – is 15/2 on William Hill (shortest 13/2).

Who is the favourite to win the World Snooker Championship?

Pre-tournament favourite Ronnie O’Sullivan remains the bookmakers’ favourite to win the 2024 World Snooker Championship at a best price of 13/8 on bet365 (shortest 6/4).

The 48-year-old, who leads Jackson Page 8-1 in round one, is aiming to win a season triple crown for the first-time in his career and a record breaking eighth World crown.
