After easing through his semi-final in the Men's 1500m at the Olympic Games, GB's Josh Kerr is going for gold in Paris.
Josh Kerr, GB’s latest gold medal hope in the Stade de France after the stunning win for Keely Hodgkinson in the 800m last night, cruised through his 1500m semi-final alongside his fierce rival and bookmakers’ favourite, reigning Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen.
Now 26 years of age, GB captain Kerr is the current world champion having outlasted Ingebrigtsen to win the 2023 title in Budapest in a time of 3:29.38.
It came just a year after Ingebrigtsen suffered a similar defeat to GB's Jake Wightman in the 2022 Worlds final in Eugene, suggesting there is a vulnerability to the favourite.

Men's 1500m Final Odds
Men's 1500m | Best Odds | Worst Odds |
---|---|---|
Jakob Ingebrigtsen | 4/5 | 3/4 |
Josh Kerr | 27/20 | 6/5 |
Jakob Ingebrigtsen is the clear favourite with the bookmakers to defend the title he won in Tokyo. The Norwegian is a shortest price 4/6 and a best price 4/5 on Sky Bet.
On paper, Ingebrigtsen is the faster man having clocked a personal best of 3:26.73 in Monaco last month. That’s more than two seconds faster than Kerr’s best of 3:29.05, which helped him to Tokyo bronze three years ago.
1500m Men's World Record
Hicham El Guerrouj is the Men's 1500m world record holder with a time of 3:26.00 set in 1998. Kerr's personal best is the 3:29.05 he posted to win bronze at the Toko Olympics in 2021. He beat Ingebrigtsen to win gold in the 2023 World Championship in Budapest.
Josh Kerr Sports Personality of the Year Odds
Josh Kerr is the fourth favourite (16/1 Sky Bet) to win the 2024 Sports Personality of the Year behind big favourite Keely Hodgkinson (best price 8/11 on Ladbrokes), teenage darts sensation Luke Littler and gold medal winning cyclist Emma Finucane.
However, Hodgkinson was a general 2/1 before she started her 800m campaign in Paris, which suggests Kerr’s price would be slashed should he win tonight.
