Christmas Number One Odds 2024: Can anyone stop back-to-back wins for Wham?

Christmas Number One Odds 2024: Can anyone stop back-to-back wins for Wham?

Last year's Christmas Number 1 will be hard to stop in 2024.

The Christmas chart toppers from 12 months ago are in pole position to repeat the feat in 2024, having been slashed from odds of 11/10 two weeks ago into as short as 1/12 with some bookmakers on the eve of this year's result.

'Last Christmas' for Wham! assumed top spot last week, displacing 'That's So True' by Gracie Adams which fell to #2. Mariah Carey's 'All I Want For Christmas' moved from #5 to #3, while 'Apt' for Rosé and Bruno Mars and 'Rockin Around The Christmas Tree' for Brenda Lee made up the top five.

Have Wham! already wrapped up back-to-back wins?

Who will be Christmas Number 1 in 2024?

The latest odds suggest Wham! are favourites to land this year's Christmas Number 1. They are rated 90% likely even at the best price available of 1/9 on Paddy Power.

Having finally reached Christmas Number One for the first time 12 months ago - breaking a five-year winning run for LadBaby - 'Last Christmas' is all but guaranteed to stay there in 2024 for George Michael and Andrew Ridgeley.

For those having a bet on the darts, Paddy Power are giving £40 in free bets for new customers placing a £10 bet on the World Darts Championship.

Despite Wham!'s dominant position in the market, there are options available for those wanting to have a flutter on a shock at a big price.

For example, perennial Christmas Number One contender Mariah Carey is now a 33/1 chance on William Hill having been a best 7/1 just two weeks ago.

'All I Want For Christmas Is You' has never actually been Christmas Number One. It did, however, finally reach top spot in the charts the last week before Christmas in 2020 - 26 years after its release - before missing out to LadBaby.

'All I Am' for Yorkshire Pudding Boy is 33/1 on Ladbrokes, despite the family behind it going viral for their Yorkshire pudding costume on TikTok.

Tom Grennan's 'It Can't Be Christmas' (40/1) was expected to challenge for Christmas Number 1 but peaked at #6 last week.

It is 50/1 that One Direction fans can send Liam Payne's 'All I Want (For Christmas)' - released in 2019 - to the top of the charts following his tragic death earlier this year. The same price applies for Ed Sheeran, the last winner of Christmas Number One outside of Wham! and LadBaby in 2017 with 'Perfect'.

Finally, Band Aid 40 have slipped massively in the last month, drifting from an odds on 4/6 to as long as 66/1 on Ladbrokes. It's now been 20 years since Band Aid 20 topped the festive charts with 'Do They Know It's Christmas?'
