What is EV Betting?
EV (Expected Value) shows how much a sports bettor can expect to win per bet. Essentially, it's your average return on investment or ROI. Positive EV indicates potential profit over time while negative EV indicates a potential loss over time.
The higher the EV, the greater the value of the bet. It’s key to note, however, that even if a bet has a positive EV it's not guaranteed to win.
In order to calculate EV we take the AI probability of winning times the bet payout minus the AI probability of losing times bet size to equal our expected value.
For example, Mo Salah to score anytime against Leicester on Boxing Day has an AI probability of 65.7% and an implied probability of 63.69%, which makes the EV value 3.15%.
An EV value greater than 0% equals a profitable bet, an EV value less than 0% equals an unprofitable bet, whereas an EV value greater than 10% equals a highly profitable bet.
