Harry Kane is the 10/11 favourite to win Sports Personality of the Year 2026 after his Ballon d'Or win, with Amy Hunt pushed out to 9/4.
Amy Hunt has led the Sports Personality of the Year betting for most of the autumn. Harry Kane's Ballon d'Or win changed that in one night. He became the first English player to win the award since Michael Owen in 2001, and he is now odds-on to win SPOTY 2026 as well. Hunt has been pushed out to second favourite.
Kane's case is a full year in the making. He scored 61 goals in 51 games as Bayern Munich won the Bundesliga and German Cup double. He then captained England to third place at the World Cup, scoring six times and becoming the country's all-time leading scorer at World Cups. He has never won the BBC award, and his best finish was third in 2018.

Who's Favourite to Win Sports Personality of the Year 2026?
Harry Kane is the favourite at a best price of 10/11. That gives him an implied chance of around 52%. At the shortest price of 4/7 with Betfair Sportsbook and Paddy Power, his chance rises to about 64%. Punters have moved early: Kane has taken 80% of all bets on Oddschecker's Most Popular Bets, against 13% for Hunt.
Hunt is second favourite at 9/4, about 31%. Josh Kerr is third favourite at 17/2, about 11%. The market sees this as a straight contest between Kane and Hunt, with a vote from football fans now set against a strong summer for athletics.
How Kane's Ballon d'Or Win Moved the SPOTY 2026 Odds
Oddschecker's bet history shows how quickly the bookmakers reacted. At Sunday's close, Kane was 15/8 with William Hill, Paddy Power and BetVictor, and 2/1 with Sky Bet and Betfred. Sky Bet had cut him to 8/13 by Tuesday morning. William Hill went from 11/8 at Monday's close to 8/11, and BetVictor now go 4/6.
Hunt and Kerr have both drifted. Sky Bet have pushed Hunt out to 9/4, although bet365 still go 6/4. Kerr went from 4/1 to 6/1 with bet365 on Monday and is now 15/2 there.
SPOTY 2026 Contenders: Hunt, Kerr and Weston
Hunt's claim is still very strong. In August she became the first athlete to win four golds at a single European Championships, in the 100m, 200m, 4x100m and mixed 4x100m relay in Birmingham. The mixed relay also set a European record.
Kerr broke the mile world record with 3:42.66 at the London Diamond League in July. He followed that with Commonwealth gold in Glasgow, having already won the world indoor 3000m title in March. Matt Weston won two skeleton golds at the Winter Olympics in Milan-Cortina, in the men's event and the mixed team event with Tabitha Stoecker.
Rory McIlroy won last year's award and defended his Masters title in April, but he is out at 150/1. Fury and Joshua finally meet at the Principality Stadium in Cardiff on 11 December, so a big night there could still change the boxing prices.
When is Sports Personality of the Year 2026?
The BBC has not confirmed the date yet. Last year it named the date in late November, and the show ran on 18 December at MediaCityUK in Salford, live on BBC One. A mid-December ceremony is expected again, with the shortlist named beforehand and the winner decided by a public vote on the night.
