Following his win over Bernard Tomic, Evans is now 100/1 to win the tournament having been 1250/1 before play began.
Dan Evans has today defeated Bernard Tomic 7-5 7-6 (7-2) 7-6 (7-3) to reach the fourth round of the Australian Open. It's the first time has has reached that stage of a grand slam tournament and follows his second round win over Marin Cilic.
Prior to the tournament starting on 13th January, Evans was somewhat surprisingly in the semi final of the Sydney International and was a massive 1250/1 to win the Australian Open.
Having got to the final of that tournament and then following up that with his three wins against Bagnis, Cilic and home-favourite Tomic, his odds have been cut to 100/1. While he is still someway from winning the title, that is quite an achievement for a man recently dropped from his sponsorship with Nike.
The 26 year-old from Solihull was forced to buy plain t-shirts from a Nike store but that hasn't dampened his spirit in navigating his way through the tournament.
"I'm just out of contract with Nike. They didn't offer me another contract so I just went to the store and bought a load of clothes the other day, plain clothes," Evans said.
He is sure to have plenty of offers after his displays this week though, with interest in him sure to pick up in Britain, especially if his run continues.
The opponents only get tougher from here on in though, with Jo-Wilfred Tsonga up next, Stan Wawrinka in the quarters and British number one, Andy Murray in the semis if he were to make it to the final.
