Djokovic demolition drives French Open support

77.7% of stakes on the market today have been on Djokovic to win his 13th Grand Slam.

Novak Djokovic’s dismantling of French Open third favourite Dominic Thiem, losing just one game in the process, has sparked punters to place their cash on the Serbian to win the second Grand Slam of the year.

It’s has been a year the world number two has spent mostly in the wilderness, stemming from his second round exit at the Australian Open in January to 117th ranked Denis Istomin. The February and March that followed saw Nick Kyrgios knock him out of the two tournaments he played in.

The start of the clay court season has seen a mild resurgence from the 12 Grand Slam holder. He reached the quarter-finals in Monte Carlo in April and he was defeated in the semi-finals by a red hot Rafael Nadal in Madrid.

But it is in Rome where Djokovic has begun to make people take note once again. He ran out a 6-1 6-4 winner against big hitter Juan Martin Del-Potro this morning and had to then turn out against Dominic Thiem later on in the day. Thiem was riding high coming into the match, fresh of an extremely impressive against clay king and French Open favourite, Nadal (10/11). Djokovic thrashed the Austrian world number 7 6-1 6-0.

77.7% of stakes and 50.3% of bets on the French Open in the last 24 hours have been on the Serb. He is now generally a 3/1 shot across the board but is available at 15/4 in a place if you act fast.  Djokovic will now face Alex Zverev in the final in Rome before the action at Roland Garros gets underway on Monday.
