Murray new favourite for Wimbledon after Djokovic defeat

World number one now leads the market after the Serb was beaten in straight sets by Dominic Thiem at Roland Garros

Britain's Andy Murray is the new favourite for Wimbledon after Novak Djokovic was swept aside by Dominic Thiem in Paris on Wednesday morning. The world number two was best-price 3/1 to land his fourth Wimbledon title in July, but following his straight-sets defeat to the Austrian, is now out to as big as 9/2 in places.

Murray, who himself bids for a French Open semi-final berth when he takes on Kei Nishikori, is now 11/4 favourite to make it a hat-trick of Wimbledon successes this summer with seven-time champion Roger Federer next in the market at 3/1.

Djokovic’s conqueror Thiem was also cut for success with some bookies now offering odds of just 20/1 for the 23-year-old to land a maiden grand slam. The Austrian could well break that duck this weekend but will have to dispose of the king of clay Rafael Nadal in his next match. The Spaniard now boasts a record of 100-102 in best-of-five clay court matches after Wednesday's win over Roberto Bautista-Agut and will be hoping to win his tenth French Open title.

The two are the form players on tour this year, boasting the two best records - Thiem is 34-12 with Nadal 41-6 so far in 2017 - but Nadal is the clear favourite at 1/4 to make it to Sunday's final.
