Today sees Roger Federer aim to win his 8th Wimbledon and participate in his 11th Wimbledon final, but it is his opponent Marin Cilic who is proving the most popular. It will be a tall order for the 6 foot 6 Croatian, as the Swiss is the 1/4 favourite whilst he is the 4/1 outsider.
The only time the pair have met on grass was at the All England Club last year, where Federer came back from two sets down to win the match. Their head-to-head record is also in the 35-year-old’s favour at six wins to one.
That one win though was on the way to Cilic’s maiden Grand Slam victory. At the US Open in 2014, he destroyed the five-time US Open champion in straight sets in the semi-final, showing he can perform on the big occasion.
The world number six will have to beat the former world number one once again if he is to win another Grand Slam and Oddschecker users certainly think he is capable. Since both semi-finals were decided, Cilic has accounted for 84.8% of all stakes placed on the match compared to just 15.2% on Federer.
Another one of our users will also be eagerly anticipating today’s final as he sits on a £40 bet on Cilic at 40/1 from back in June, which would bank him a tidy sum of £1,640!
