Australian Open: Rafael Nadal gets good hand in Melbourne 'GOAT' blackjack

oddschecker have the latest odds in the aftermath of Novak Djokovic's visa denial. Could this open the door for Rafael Nadal?

Rafael Nadal will be dreaming of a rare winning moment in Melbourne after a visa row threatened the participation of world number one Novak Djokovic (18/11) in the first Grand Slam of the 2022 tennis calendar.

The Majorcan maestro, locked on 20 Grand Slams with both Djokovic and Roger Federer, stands at an unusually long best price of 14/1 just 11 days out from the start of the showpiece event.

However, his chances of a first Melbourne win since 2009 - already boosted by a 'bust' knee for Federer - were given another lift by possible visa complications for Djokovic, who now waits to see if Australian authorities will 'stick or twist' over his medical exemption.

It all means that Nadal might be the only member of the much-vaunted trio - widely considered among the 'GOATs' of the sport - available to play and with the chance to become first to 21 Grand Slam wins.

Of course, Nadal is not the only one poised to benefit should Djokovic be denied the chance to compete for a 10th (and third successive) Australian Open title.

Daniil Medvedev, who landed the US Open title in 2021, has shortened to a best price of 23/10, while Alexander Zverev - who beat Medvedev to claim his second ATP Finals win in Turin just over six weeks ago - is now best priced 4/1.
