Australian Open Odds: Rafael Nadal’s odds shorten as he rumbles into third round

Now that most players in the men’s draw have played at least one match, oddschecker look at the latest movers in the Australian Open odds market.

Nadal to win it?

The 20-time Grand Slam winner has eased his way into the third round. So far, he has only dropped 16 games across two matches. In the third round, he faces his first seeded opponent in the form of Karen Khachanov. Despite his excellent start, Nadal is still 5/1 with one bookmaker.

The odds for the Spaniard to win the tournament are 4/1 with most bookies. ‘Rafa’ is the only former champion left in the draw and he will be hoping he can be the first player to win 21 Grand Slams.

Who could win each quarter?

If Nadal is to reach the last four in Melbourne, he will likely have to overcome Alexander Zverev as they are both in the second quarter of the draw. The young German is evens to win their quarter of the draw, while Nadal has shortened to 13/8 with five bookies.

With Novak Djokovic’s absence, the path to the quarters has become easier for Gael Monfils. The highest ranked player he will have play en route to the last eight is Cristian Garin (16th seed) whom he plays on Friday. The Frenchman is currently best odds 4/1 to win the first quarter of the draw.

Tournament winner odds

The Russian second seed Daniil Medvedev still leads the way and remains the bookies favourite, largely available at 13/8. At the time of writing, he has only played one match, but he came out unscathed with a straight-sets victory.

The third-seeded Zverev is the second favourite in the Australian Open odds at 16/5 with several bookmakers. He has never won here in Melbourne; his best performance was reaching the semi-finals in 2020.

Nadal is at 4/1, Stefanos Tsitsipas 16/1, Jannik Sinner 20/1 and Carlos Alcaraz 27/1. A few notable names further out are Gael Monfils (40/1), the controversial Australian Nick Kyrgios (66/1) and Andy Murray (89/1).
