Game of Thrones: Euron Greyjoy odds cut to rule Westeros

The King of the Iron Islands may have witnessed the embarrassment of having his marriage proposal rejected, but came out of the season’s first episode with a smile on his face.

Game of Thrones finally returned to our TV boxes last night, and the first episode didn’t disappoint. Last night, we had deaths, wedding rejections, fall-outs and Ed Sheeran. The singer’s appearance on our screens certainly wasn’t the most intriguing plot of last night’s show, that title probably goes to the meeting between Cersei Lannister and Euron Greyjoy.

The King of the Iron Islands proposed to the Queen and while this was rejected, it didn’t deter Euron, as he promised to return to the capital with a “priceless gift” that would change her mind. It’s unclear what this gift is, especially if a fleet of 1,000 ships wasn’t enough to sway her. Rumours have sparked that the present could be Cersei’s brother Tyrion, or even Euron’s niece Yara. Whatever the gift maybe, bookmakers believe Euron Greyjoy has become one step closer to ruling Westeros.

Yesterday, Euron’s odds to rule Westeros at the end of the show were cut from 33/1 to 16/1, which implies a 5.9% chance. However, punters aren’t buying into the new storyline in the HBO series. Oddschecker users believe that now Daenerys Targaryen has returned to Westeros she’s on course to rule Westeros; in the last twenty-four hours she’s accounted for 27% of bets in the market.

Arya Stark once again showed her killer instinct last night by avenging her family by killing off the remaining members of the Frey family. Her brutal mass killing has led many to believe she’s got what it takes to rule Westeros, with 20% of people backing her to do so at 10/1.

Since the start of the year, Daenerys Targaryen has accounted for 32% of bets placed on the market, Jon Snow is the second most popular in the market at 10.5% and third is Cersei Lannister at 9.7%.
