Anya Shrubsole and Natalie Sciver both prominent in the market after Lords heroics
There has been a shake-up in the market for this year’s Sports Personality of the Year after a bumper weekend of success for British sport.
England Women’s enthralling victory in the World Cup final has seen key squad members Anya Shrubsole and Natalie Sciver added to the top of the market. Shrubsole took 6-46 at Lords to help England to a nine-run win over India after Sciver had earlier scored 51 in England’s total of 228-7. Shrubsole’s figures included an incredible spell where the 25-year-old took 5-11 in 19 deliveries.
Both women are now best-priced 25/1 with their captain Heather Knight 40/1 and wicket-keeper batsman Sarah Taylor 50/1.
Elsewhere, a third successive success in the Tour de France has catapulted Chris Froome into contention. The four-time winner of the grand tour secured victory in one of the most hotly contested races in modern history, moving him one win behind the winning most riders Jacques Anquetil, Eddy Merckx, Bernard Hinault and Miguel Indurain. Available at 33/1 at the start of the tour, the Team Sky rider is now as short as 8/1 third favourite (best price 16/1).
Another British star to achieve success on the world stage was diver Tom Daley who achieved his first individual World Championship gold in eight years with success in the 10m platform final in Budapest on Saturday. The 23-year-old was adding to the silver medal he won earlier that day in the mixed 3m springboard alongside Grace Reid. Despite his victory, the 23-year-old is still a massive 100/1 to win the coveted award.
Heavyweight champion Anthony Joshua remains the odds-on favourite following his epic win over Wladimir Klitschko at Wembley. The two are set for a re-match later in the year with the Londoner again a heavy favourite to retain his IBF and IBO belts.
