Jonnie Peacock the early pick with punters for Strictly success

The 24-year-old Paralympic gold medallist is the most popular pick with punters so far this week

Tess Daley and Claudia Winkleman will be joined by a whole host of celebrities next month when the BBC spectacular returns to our screens for its 15th series.

Former member of boyband JLS, Aston Merrygold, has been installed as the early favourite to win the show at 3/1 and has accounted for 15.45% of bets placed in the market.

The only competitor more popular than Merrygold with the punters has been Jonnie Peacock, the gold medal winner has been priced at 14/1 to win the show, which implies a 6.7% chance of winning. Despite bookies rating Peacock’s chances of success as pretty slim, just over 21% of bets placed on the show have been on the Paralympian.

X-Factor winner, Alexandra Burke has been the most-backed female on this year’s show since betting started, accounting for 13% of bets. The singer is third favourite to win the show at odds of 11/2, behind both Merrygold and former Saturdays star Mollie King.

So far bettors have avoided comedienne Susan Calman who is a 50/1 with bookies. She’s received the least support in the betting to date, with just 0.2% of people backing her to win the show.
