Oxford indie group have shortened dramatically in the lead up to the announcement tonight
In the past 12 hours there have been a flurry of bets across all UK bookmakers for Glass Animals; the 14/1 outsiders have tumbled all the way down to 11/4 favourites, with 55% of bets placed on the Indie group from Oxford today. Their second album How To Be A Human Being has done well critically and commercially and this award could be the icing on the cake for the quartet.
Last year’s winner, Skepta with Konichiwa, began the day of the awards at 10/1 and came down to 3/1, so the activity around Glass Animals is certainly interesting in this regard. This year’s grime representative, the ever-popular Stormzy with Gang Signs and Prayer, has seen less than 5% of bets on the market with punters sceptical of grime winning two years in a row.
Previously, Kate Tempest was the favourite, with Sampha just behind, but they have been leapfrogged spectacularly by Glass Animals with just hours to go until the decision. Tempest and Sampha are now 9/2 and 4/1 respectively.
The money is still mainly on the 28-year old second favourite, with 30 percent going on the Londoner whose debut album Process reached #7 on the UK album charts.
