Strictly Come Dancing Betting: Aston races ahead in betting

Former JLS man streets clear with punters following Saturday's show

There was only one celebrity punters wanted to be on after watching Strictly on Saturday. Oddschecker users piled into bookie’s favourite Aston Merrygold after the former popstar topped the leaderboard with 35 points following another eye-catching performance alongside partner Janette Manrara. The two combined to put in a near faultless performance that wowed both the judges and it seems bettors too.

The pocket rocket has been at the top of the market since the series began but bookmakers reacted to his Saturday performance by cutting his odds to even shorter from 3/1 into 9/4 in places following a barrage of bets. In total just shy of 31% of all bets on the winner market following the show have been on Aston, well clear of Alexandra Burke (9%) and Mollie King (8%) in second and third respectively.

Following his appearance in the dance off, TV chef Simon Rimmer has been installed as the early favourite to be the next to leave the show at 11/8 ahead of the much-improved Brian Conley at 11/4. Charlotte Hawkins again struggled last week and can be backed at 7/2 whilst Ruth Langsford, who had a disappointing rumba on Saturday, is 4/1.

Oddschecker spokesperson george Elek: "It's looking like the bookies called this one right from the word go as the former JLS star continues to justify favouritism. The three most popular bets are no strangers to the stage having made their name as performers, and that experience means punetrs can't see past them to land the title."
