The former England fast bowler talks us through his experiences on tour down under and rates England's chances of retaining the Ashes
Ahead of the upcoming Ashes series in Australia, former England bowler Darren Gough believes that England’s bowling attack is perfect for Brisbane.
Speaking exclusively to Oddschecker, Gough expressed his belief that James Anderson, Stuart Broad and Chris Woakes are “as good as you would want to have” for the conditions likely to face the touring side in that all-important First Test.
The former paceman also expressed his reservations about the Australia squad, even claiming that Mitchell Starc may be the only current Australian player who would get into the teams Gough played against, in a Test career spanning from 1994-2003.
“I think Mitchell Starc is obviously a massive one,” Gough responded when asked about the current crop of baggy greens, “but Warner’s debateable as you’ve got to compare him to Langer, Hayden and Mark Taylor, so I think it would be a push for him.”
“Smith, you are comparing to Steve Waugh, to Mark Waugh, to Ponting. If [Australia] get it right, I’d still make them slight favourites.”
Gough was speaking to Oddschecker at The Kia Oval, and another video will be released later this week where he talks though which England players he expects to step up to the plate over the next few weeks down under.
