34% of stakes have been on the Irish winning the competition since last night, causing mayhem in the market.
The luck of the Irish struck again last night, with their act Ryan O’Shaughnessy’s chances of winning Eurovision becoming a reality. Qualifying from a very strong semi-final was a shock in itself, and now bookies are cutting their price of winning on Saturday night.
That’s because they have been handed a very favourable draw in Saturday night’s running order, when O’Shaughnessy will perform third last, 24th out of 26 acts.
A week ago you could back Ireland to win Eurovision at a massive 250/1, however they’re now as short as 14/1 to land the competition. This means their chances of winning have increased from 0.4% to 6.7%.
Ireland haven’t qualified for the final since 2013, when Ryan Dolan finished last with only five points to his name.
It’s not only the bookies who think the Irish have a realistic chance of winning the competition, bettors are also jumping on the bandwagon. This morning Ireland have been the most popular Eurovision bet, accounting for 34% of all stakes placed in the winners market.
