We've crunched the numbers and stats from seasons gone by to find the celeb that will win this year's series!
The 18th series of I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! Is about to start and 10 campmates have been announced. With that, it’s time to look at the runners and riders to see if there’s any pattern that can be gained from past winners.
Here at Oddschecker, we’ve looked at the last 17 winners and used a variety of metrics to find a current campmate that ticks all the boxes of a potential winner.
Firstly, let’s look at the current betting odds for each celebrity:
John Barrowman – 3/1
Anne Hegerty – 8/1
Sair Khan – 8/1
Harry Redknapp – 8/1
James McVey – 9/1
Fleur East – 10/1
Malique Thompson-Dwyer – 10/1
Emily Atack – 10/1
Rita Simons – 12/1
Nick Knowles – 12/1
In the early stages, John Barrowman is favourite, but the markets at this stage are prone to change due to no footage being aired as yet.
Let’s now look at the past winners, from Series 1 in 2002 through to Series 17 last year.
2002 - Tony Blackburn
2003 - Phil Tufnell
2004* - Kerry Katona
2004* - Joe Pasquale
2005 - Carol Thatcher
2006 - Matt Willis
2007 - Christopher Biggins
2008 - Joe Swash
2019 - Gino D’Acampo
2010 - Stacey Solomon
2011 - Dougie Poynter
2012 - Charlie Brooks
2013 - Kian Egan
2014 - Carl Fogarty
2015 - Vicky Pattison
2016 - Scarlett Moffatt
2017 - Georgia Toffolo
* = There were two series in 2004: One in January and one in November.
The first thing to look at is gender. 59% of past winners have been male, with 41% female. This then leaves us with the following contestants:
John Barrowman – 3/1
Harry Redknapp – 8/1
James McVey – 9/1
Malique Thompson-Dwyer – 10/1
Nick Knowles – 12/1
Next, let’s look at the age of each celebrity. The average age of a campmate from each series combined works out to be 34 years old. Of past winners, just 35% have been older than 34, with 65% being younger.
Interestingly, four of the first five winners were over 34, with just Kerry Katona being younger: She was 24 when triumphing in 2004. The previous three winners have all been under 30, as well as female.
So now, we need to look at male campmates who are under 34. This leaves us with:
James McVey – 9/1
Malique Thompson-Dwyer – 10/1
Finally, let’s look at the background of each former winner. For research purposes, we are looking at the thing the celebrity in question was most famous for at the time of entering the jungle. The list breaks down like this:
Music Industry – 5 Winners
Reality Star – 4 Winners
Actor – 3 Winners
Sports Star – 2 Winners
TV Personality – 2 Winners
Journalist – 1 Winner
Surprisingly, the music industry comes out on top, with Tony Blackburn, Kerry Katona, Matt Willis, Dougie Poynter and Kian Egan all winning. One thing to note however is that reality stars are most certainly on the rise. The last three winners have all made their name on reality shows: Geordie Shore, Gogglebox and Made In Chelsea respectively.
Finally then, we need to search for someone in the music industry, who is male and under 34. This leaves us with one person, and your winner of I’m A Celebrity 2018!
James McVey – 9/1.
Thank me later.
