Rami Malek tipped to win first ever Oscar for Best Actor

Malek is favourite for his role as Freddie Mercury in Bohemian Rhapsody.

The 2019 Oscar nominations have been announced, and bookies have kept Rami Malek as favourite to win Best Actor. 

He’s odds-on at 5/6 best price to win his first ever Oscar, just ahead of Christian Bale, who is 7/4 best price after his remarkable transformation to play Dick Cheney in Vice.

Malek has been nominated for a Best Actor BAFTA for the same performance, and this comes after universal acclaim for his Freddie Mercury turn, including praise from Mercury’s Queen bandmate Brian May. 

Over the course of the month, Malek has enjoyed the support of punters, with 48% of total bets going on the 37-year-old, compared to 30% for Bale. 

But in the last 24 hours, 37% of bets have gone on Bale, compared to 30% for Malek.

Elsewhere, Bradley Cooper completes the top three is 13/2 for his performance in A Star Is Born.
