Kelvin Fletcher new favourite to win Strictly Come Dancing following saucy salsa

The ex-Emmerdale star has shot to the top of the market following Saturday's performance.

Former Emmerdale actor Kelvin Fletcher has been slashed from 7/1 into as short as 5/4 favourite to win Strictly Come Dancing.

Bookmakers have dramatically cut odds on the ex-soap star following his extraordinary opening performance on Saturday.

He’s the punters’ favourite too, with 31% of bets in the last 24 hours making him the most backed ahead of Karim Zeroual.

Dancing the salsa with partner Oti Mabuse, Fletcher gyrated his way to a 32 from the judges. That was the highest score for the first show in five years according to host Claudia Winkleman.

The 35-year-old, who played Emmerdale’s Andy Sugden for 20 years, was called in as a late replacement for Jamie Laing.

The Made in Chelsea man was forced to withdraw from the competition having picked up an injury in the launch show.

Elsewhere, CBBC presenter Karim Zeroual also impressed. However, after the performance of Kelvin and Oti, his price has actually drifted to 4/1.

Emma Barton is currently the leading lady in the market at 6/1. She and partner Anton Du Beke received 23 points from the judges.

Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: “Surely the best super-sub since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer at United, late call-up Kelvin Fletcher is already the one to beat on Strictly.

“The standard was higher than ever before for week one, and it was the ex-Emmerdale heartthrob that stood out by far. At the other end of the scale, James Cracknell is the even money favourite to be the first to go.”
