What’s occurring? Big ratings, that’s what’s occurring
The Gavin and Stacey Christmas special is the bookmaker’s odds-on favourite to be the top-rated Christmas TV show, ahead of the highly anticipated return.
Facing stiff competition from the usual big-hitters, punters think that James Corden and Matthew Horne’s comedy show will top the lot.
Michael McIntyre’s Big Christmas Show is the closest in the market when it comes to which show will be the top-rated, currently priced at 8/1.
The ITV classic Call the Midwife is the next most likely at 10/1, although is as short as 3/1 with some bookmakers.
Quintessentially British, the Queen’s Speech is a whopping 20/1 to be the top-rated show as we tuck into our festivities, someway off the team in Barry.
EastEnders is 66/1 to be crowned top Xmas telly show, which is a tad shorter than rival Coronation Street, which is priced at 100/1.
Who Wants to Be a Millionaire is 100/1, so it doesn’t look as if Jeremy Clarkson and co will be top of the tree come to the end of December 25th.
Finally, if it’s culinary expertise you’re looking for (even after Christmas dinner), the Great British Bake Off is 100/1 to be the top-rated festive show.
Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: "Die-hard Gavin and Stacey fans have been gnocchi'ing on the door for years, and sooner (big fat sooner) or later, it was going to return.
"The Christmas special isn't Nessassarily guaranteed to be a smash hit, but it would come as no SURPRISE if it broke plenty of viewing records."
