The BBC’s unveiling of the Sports Personality of the Year shortlist has resulted in a great amount of attention on the market, strengthening one man’s position.

Lewis Hamilton is the clear favourite to win the award this year, with former contender Marcus Rashford’s odds wiped from the market.

The Formula One star has been cut from 6/4 into as short as 1/4, with 3/7 the best price available out of the operators on the oddschecker grids.

United star striker-turned-campaigner Marcus Rashford was the 9/4 second favourite, but his withdrawal from the market has seen odds cut on Robbie O’Sullivan.

The reigning world champion has been cut from 10/1 into 6/1, placing him in the rear-view mirror of Hamilton.

Few have had a more impressive year than Tyson Fury, although the Gypsy King finds himself 7/1 third favourite in the race.

Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson is 14/1 in the betting, whilst history-making Hollie Doyle finds herself a consensus 25/1 shot.

England cricketer Stuart Broad rounds off the betting, although is largely unfancied at 279/1 best price.

Oddschecker spokesperson Callum Wilson: “While there have been plenty who have displayed sporting excellence this year, it's hard to look past Lewis Hamilton to scoop up this year's SPOTY.

“Hamilton has made history in this year's F1 Championship, and will go down as one of the all-time greats of the sport.

“Despite F1 not being the most mainstream of sports in the UK, punters have resonated with Hamilton’s achievements – with 37% of all bets this week backing the Brit.”

BBC SPOTY Winner 2020:
Lewis Hamilton – 3/7
Ronnie O’Sullivan – 6/1
Tyson Fury – 7/1
Jordan Henderson – 14/1
Hollie Doyle – 25/1
Stuart Broad – 279/1
