Oscars 2023 Predictions: Michelle Yeoh to edge Cate Blanchett for Best Actress

Everything Everywhere All at Once has 11 nominations for the Oscars 2023 including Best Picture and Best Actress, for which Michelle Yeoh is favourite to beat Tar’s Cate Blanchett.

With the award season coming to an end we take a look at the season’s biggest awards ceremony and who are the favorites to win in four of the biggest categories.

Best Picture

Everything Everywhere All at Once is the clear favourite to bag this year’s big award, having been nominated for 11 awards overall. The Multiverse story has also bagged nominations for acting, design, screenplay and score but it is the best picture award they will have their eyes on and they can be found at a best price of 1/7 to take home the prize.

Elsewhere, Martin McDonagh’s The Banshees of Inisherin, which has been nominated for nine awards, is 16/1 to win and Steven Spielberg’s semi-autobiographical The Fabelmans has drifted out to 33/1.

With the ceremony approaching the bookies have best picture nailed on for Everything Everywhere All at Once unless second favourite (14/1) All Quiet on the Western Front can spring a surprise.

Best Director

Another prize seemingly done and dusted is for Everything Everywhere All at Once’s the Daniels (1/9 best price) to land best director. The Fabelmans’ Steven Spielberg is second favourite at 8/1.

The Daniels are relative newcomers to the cinema world and stand for their first academy award nominations this year. Compared to Spielberg’s three academy award wins (two in best director) and 22 nominations, this one looks like a David vs Goliath story.

Other contenders for this award include Martin McDonagh (33/1) for The Banhsees of Inisherin, who is looking for his second Oscar win (seven nominations) after winning for best live action short film in 2006, and Todd Field for Tar who can be backed at 40/1.

Best Actor

Following the dramatics surrounding last year’s winner, Will Smith, this year’s award is up for grabs with two actors leading the way. Brendan Fraser (5/7) for The Whale is the early frontrunner after his critics' choice awards win propelled him back into the spotlight.

The actor had taken a hiatus for several years after a run of bad films had taken his career on a negative trajectory, however, this role has rejuvenated his career and he has earned himself his first award nomination since 2006.

His closest rival for the award is Austin Butler (11/8) who has been nominated for his portrayal of Elvis Presley. The actor had largely been know for his roles in kids’ television shows before his appearance in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood broadened his range. He recently beat Fraser for best actor at the Golden Globe Awards so many see this as a battle between the two.

Best Actress

The best actress category is another one that is going to be a toss-up between two outstanding performances. Michelle Yeoh (5/6) from Everything Everywhere All at Once is up for her first Oscar after claiming the win at the Golden Globes, while Cate Blanchett is 11/10 to win her third Academy Award from her eight nominations for her performance in Tar.

The rest of the nominees are relative long shots, with Andrea Riseborough for To Leslie at 20/1 and Michelle Williams for The Fabelmans both at 40/1.
